Our Sailing School
Director, Curtis Collins, has been an ASA Instructor since 1994. Curtis
has cruised and raced extensively in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Florida, and the Caribbean.
He holds a USCG 100-Ton Masters License and is an ASA Instructor
Evaluator.
Curtis' sailing
experience covers a wide range of vessels from small dinghies to
traditional sailing ships of over 200 feet and just about everything in
between – including monohulls, catamarans, and trimarans.
In 2001 Curtis began
to fulfill his goal of devoting more time to sailing. He took a leave-of-absence
from his role as a partner in a consulting firm and he and his wife left
on an extended cruise. From 2002 through 2004 they did many shorter
cruises in the waters of Southwest Florida
and then departed on another extended cruise in 2004.
Their 2004 cruise
took them from Texas to Florida and then on to the Dry Tortugas, Florida
Keys, Bahamas, Jamaica, and the Bay Islands of Honduras. They ended their
cruise in Belize
and set about establishing a business there. The result was a partnership
with Belize Sailing Charters that created the first, and only, American
Sailing Association (ASA) affiliated sailing school in Belize.
